My background
I am a professor at the University of Toronto in the Departments of Physiology and Biochemistry and a senior scientist at the Research Institute at the Hospital for Sick Children. My research work focuses on understanding the basis for respiratory disease and how this develops through a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
After visiting Iqaluit, Nunavut a couple of years ago, I learned a little about Inuit culture and fell in love with the natural environment. I realized, that I wanted to write about their stories of resilience as they face climate change in the Arctic and how they are adapting.
I graduated with a Fellowship from the Munk School of Global Journalism, University of Toronto (conferred 2019) and now, write articles about biology, human development, health and the environment. Through my writing, I aim to capture the curiosity and imagination of people who are not professional scientists but want to discover more about the world around them.
